You know I genuinely think that the whole lord and master crap is a huge attraction for a lot of the men in the Borg. They love the king of the castle routine because typically in their "real life" they have someone telling them to clean the toilets and make sure they don't forget to do the windows. Talk about a good ol' boy network, the WBTS personifies that. Give me a smart independent woman anyday, they are so much more fun than the ones that follow their husbands around like obedient serfs.

As a single woman she became more independant
by purplesofa inexerpt from 2/1/05 wt is the truth bearing fruit in those you teach?.
consider how another christian was able to help her bible student.
the student was attending meetings and sharing in the ministry and had already expressed a desire to get baptised.

I went through school in the 70's and early 80's and sports were a total no-no which was one of the single biggest reasons that I despised the org as a child (the five mind numbing meetings a week didn't help either). It got to the point when I got to high school that I forged my parents signature so I could play football and wrestle. I had always been a good kid, never acted out or got into any kind of trouble so they bought the outrageous fibs I told about where I was all the time. I had neighbors that helped me out as well driving me to and from practices etc. and helping cover for me. They eventually caught me and there was a major blow up. At that point I threw down the gauntlet and told them if they took away sports things were going to get real ugly. The coach came to the house and told the folks look, the kid wants to play ball, you are going to punish him for that? Do you know what sort of stuff he could be getting into? My parents weren't bad people really, just trying to do what they were taught from the platform was right and I think they sensed we were at a cross roads, a couple of teachers called and the school shrink that basically told them if I wasn't allowed some outlet that they weren't sure what was going to happen. So we made a deal and I was allowed to play, if there wasn't practice I had to go to the meetings. My dad was a MS at the time and they took that away because of the sports and I appreciated later the sacrifice he made for me. Incidentally that's where I got the nickname Big Dog, I was an offensive lineman and linebacker and anybody who ever played football understands that the game, especially on the line is nothing more than hand to hand combat. I guess I would growl like a junkyard dog when I locked up with the opposing player. I didn't even know I was doing it, it certainly wasn't to be cool it just came out and the guys starting calling me Big Dog because of it. I love sports to this day and am so glad I got a chance to play as it taught me so many things that have served me well in life. It is so sad that children are denied so many experiences by the WBTS, you can never go back, never recapture the fun and the sense that anything is possible, that you could be a pro football player or big league baseball player. Childhood is such a special time for dreaming and trying things out and for just having fun and for many of us sports were a huge part of that.

They just DO NOT think!!!
by Jez induring talks, the audience just don't think.
the speaker can shoot off some stat, a comment, but "where is the evidence for what you just said?".
the speaker can give a really great story about how a drug addict became a jw, how it saved his life, but do they think: "yes, that is one neg example in the world, but what about the positive examples?

The thing is that so many people are weak, and I mean weak in that they do not want to have to think for themselves or make hard decisions. They want to be told what to do, what to think, what to wear, etc. Making decisions, especially ones that have emotional components, or ones that are not easily reasoned out can be hard, it can be gut wrenching sometimes, but that is part of being a free moral agent and having a conscience, you have to make these decisions and live with them. So many want to take the easy way out, they want someone to tell them and relieve them from that awful tasking of thinking things through for themselves. That's why you get those questions from readers that are just incredible, you are thinking, you need to ask your religion the answer to this issue, figure it out for yourself. So they just sit there and in essence say, fill me up.

Continuing Wild Assertions.
by Blueblades inmillions now living will never die!

let's start when this wild assertion began and see where it ends up.. 1918, rutherford gives a world-wide public lecture-"millions now living will never die!".

YESTERDAY'S WT STUDY
by Mary inoh lordy, at yesterday's botchtower study, paragraph 17 (i think) asked what we personally found "encouraging" about the 2004 stats that are listed by country in the wt.
anyway, someone finally put up their hand and remarked about how wonderful it was to see that ethiopia had a 5% increase......ya, i guess if you're starving to death, who wouldn't want to hear that paradise is right around the corner.
one bro put up his hand and actually mentioned the fact that there was 0% increase in virtually all the industrialized nations, but that we "shouldn't let that discourage us".

Jez, never underestimate the ability of people to delude themselves. Its just like what you have to do with fiction, willful suspension of disbelief.

Thinking back
by purplesofa inmy bookstudy was at an elders house that lived a bit out of the city.
a small road with only his house and another.
the other house was the first you passed.....unsightly....trashed cars.......broken down bicycles............not trashy, but not like the bit of paradise at the elder house.. i remember the elder telling us how the man had become ill and lost his job working for the waterworks department, a city job, with little wages.

That was always something that really bugged me, even from the time I was just a kid. I remember asking my mom why we didn't have any charities or anything and getting some lame answer about how saving their soul was more important and that doing good works in this old system would come to no good end. I remember someone making the comment that if you gave some poor starving son of a B a sandwich he might be more apt to listen to your pitch than if he was rolling around on the ground from hunger pangs. Sort of made sense to me.

Do you find any value in attending the occaisonal meeting?
by 24k indo you still attend the occaisonal meeting with your believing family members?
if so, do you find any value in what's presented?
i still attend the occaisonal sunday meeting with my believing wife in an effort to show my respect for her feelings and my willingness to be tolerant.

LMFAO @ 144001. Makes me think of that scene where Hannibal Lecter is scooping that guy's brains out and frying them in a pan while the guy is still alive. That sort of sums up the meeting/WBTS experience.

What is it all about? This life.
by dh indo you ever have those days, weeks, months, or even years where you just feel like your entire existence is completely pointless, when time has shot by and you feel like you have done none of the things that you set out to do so many years prior.
when you feel like you have been standing still forever.. you work your routine and live your life, maybe have some friends, but when you go to sleep at night you still feel like there is nothing, no point or reason or meaning for any of it, like life is a void, and all your actions, feelings and everything about you is simply designed to distract you from the fact that there is nothing, and if you're lucky you're so distracted that you never notice it at all.
it's like some insane cylce and you can never break it, no matter what you do or how you try.

For me life is the best party in town. It's about seizing the moment, then turning it upsidedown and shaking the change from its pockets. Its about having a good time and enjoying every experience I come across. Its about what ever you want it to be about.

Cruel Joke by Circuit Overseer
by diamondblue1974 ini was reading the thread about the prospect of the wts releasing some new light shite about a prophecy to fulfil the fact that they are not growing and it brought back a really horrid memory, unintentional i know but horrid nonetheless.. the co visited the congregation were i was from and after the obligatory song and prayer, it was announced that the co needed to speak to us urgently on a local needs issue.
he came onto the platform his look was sombre and melancholy (nothing new there then).
he said he had an announcement from the governing body and that their had been a law passed that day which banned jw's in the uk that the usa and other world governments had notified the wts that they were to follow suit shortly.

I remember that happening when I was a kid and some of the people freaking out before the sadistic asshole could tell them it was not true. It was quite a scene before order was restored. Aren't their laws against screaming fire in a crowded movie theater? They are lucky no one stroked out on them over it.
